~2018 OFFICIAL NOTICE OF OPEN BOOK  ~

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that pursuant to Section 70.45 of Wis. statutes, the Assessor will hold open book on May 24, 2018 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at the Rusk Town Hall, N704 CTH “F”, Town of Rusk, Wisconsin

During Open Book, the Assessor will be present and available to answer questions regarding property assessments. In addition, instructional information and objections forms will be available during this time.  These documents will assist property owners in the event they find it necessary to schedule a hearing before the Board of Review.

 

~ 2018 OFFICIAL NOTICE OF BOARD OF REVIEW ~

NOTICE IS HEREBY FURTHER GIVEN that the Town of Rusk Board of Review will meet on

May 31, 2018 at 6:00 p.m. at the Town Hall, N709 CTH “F”, Town of Rusk, Wisconsin pursuant to Sec. 70.47 (1) of the Wis. Statutes.

Applications for "Objection form for Real Property Assessment" and "Objection form for Personal Property Assessment" can be obtained online or by calling (715) 642-3399.  Intent to file objections must be filed 48 hours prior to commencement of the Board of Review.  A waiver to the 48-hour notice may be granted by the Board of Review during the first two hours of the meeting if the applicant shows good cause for the failure to meet the 48 hour notice requirement.  Objections will be scheduled to be heard by the Board in the order in which they are received.

Those wishing to object to an assessment please be advised of the following requirements:

  • No person shall be allowed to appear before the Board or to contest the amount of any assessment of real or personal property if a reasonable written request by certified mail of the assessor to view such property has been refused.  70.47.(7)(aa)
  • After the first meeting of the Board of Review and before the Board’s final adjournment, no person who is scheduled to appear before the Board of Review may contact, or provide information to, a member of the Board about the person’s objection except at a session of the Board
  • Any person, firm, or corporation who refuses to testify, or who fails, neglects, or refuses to make and file the statement of personal property shall be denied any rights of abatement by the Board of Review on the assessment of the personal property unless they make a statement of reasons for the failure to file the return in the manner and form required.  70.35(4)
  • The property owner must specify in writing an estimate of the value of the land and improvements and specify the information that was used to arrive at the estimate.  If the assessor or owner used the income method, the owner must supply to the assessor all information about income and expenses.  The municipality must provide by ordinance for confidentiality of this information, with exception for persons using the information in the discharge of duties imposed by law or the duties of their office or by order of a court.  This information is not subject to inspection as a public record unless a court determines that it is inaccurate.  70.47(7)(af)
  • The Board shall hear upon oath, by telephone, all ill or disabled persons who present to the Board a letter from a physician, surgeon, or osteopath that confirms their illness or disability.  No other persons may testify by telephone.  70.47(8)
